Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said the upcoming Asean Summit and G-20 Summit will provide a momentum for Indonesia to strengthen its economy and national interests.

Jokowi will attend the Asean Summit in Bangkok this week and the G-20 Summit in Tokyo next week.

"We have to use the momentum to seize every opportunity to strengthen our economy and national interests," Jokowi said on Tuesday in Jakarta.

At the Asean Summit, the president plans to initiate discussions on the effect of the US-China trade war on economic stability in Southeast Asia, ways to accelerate the peace process in Myanmar's Rakhine State and recent efforts to combat marine waste.

"Asean member countries need to unite to counter the effects of the trade war between the United States and China. We have to protect the economic stability of our region," Jokowi said.

In Tokyo for the G-20 Summit, the president will talk about boosting investment and finding innovative measures to develop the digital economy and artificial intelligence.

"We also need to talk about infrastructure gap, labor issues and women empowerment," Jokowi said.
