Jakarta. The Bali Arts Festival will return for its 39th year on June 10. The month-long annual event always takes place from June to July, to coincide with the national school holidays.
Bali Tourism Agency head A.A. Gede Agung Yuniartha said: "This event's schedule always coincides with the school holidays in Indonesia. Many foreign tourists also remember this annual event. So, everyone will enjoy this event. We are preparing a big surprise for those who will come to Bali."
The festival will allow visitors to enjoy an array of cultural performances and lesser-known traditional rituals.
There will also be village dances, such as the Ngusaba Guling ritual from Timbrah village, which involves each villager presenting a suckling pig as an offering, resulting in a collection of hundreds of pigs in one place.
There will also be performances from nine of Bali's districts, as well as from other parts of Indonesia, such as Banyuwangi in East Java and East Nusa Tenggara.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is scheduled to open the event.
