Bandung Wins Cleanest Air Award From Asean

SEPTEMBER 13, 2017

Jakarta. Bandung, the capital of West Java, has won a regional environmental sustainability award for having the cleanest air among other major cities in Asean countries.

The award was announced during the 4th Asean Environmentally Sustainable City Award ceremony in Brunei on Tuesday (12/09).

"Praise be to God, Bandung has won the award as a metropolitan city with the cleanest air in the region," Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil said on Wednesday (13/09), as quoted by state news agency Antara.

The achievement is due to the city government's effort to establish a special team to control air pollution, run public campaigns on air quality management and put cars in the city through strict vehicle emissions tests.

Aside from those, air pollution control sensors are now installed at 27 spots in the city. A "Car Free Day" is also held every Sunday in the city center.

"Let's give thanks to those who always try to keep Bandung clean, especially its precious air," Ridwan said.

The city also won an award from the Forestry and Environment Minister in 2015 as the least polluted city in the country.
