Jakarta. Police in Bekasi nabbed eight bank criminals dividing up a haul worth Rp 70 million ($5,560) in Bogor district on Friday.

“When we got the information that there was a criminal group celebrating their robbery in Cileungsi, Bogor, we immediately proceeded to raid them,” Bekasi Police detectives’ unit chief Comr. Ujang Rohanda said on Friday.

“We have captured eight villains. Unfortunately, three managed to escape [including the leader],” Ujang said, identifying the fugitives as Sendi, Dodi and Abah, the leader. “We are still in the process of chasing those who escaped the raid,” Ujang said.

The group is alleged to have robbed a man after he left a Bank Mandiri branch in Bekasi’s Jatiwarna subdistrict on Thursday carrying a bag with the cash.

Those arrested provided police with the hiding place of their accomplices. Four individuals tried to escape during the raid, before being apprehended by police, who shot them in the legs to subdue them.

Police identified Sunardi, Anton, Toni and Agung as having been shot by police. Police also arrested Dedi, Alwi, Bani and Indra in the raid.

Police said they confiscated Rp 6.8 million in cash from the raid. It was not immediately clear what happened to the rest of the money.
