‘Beyond Expectation’: Prabowo’s Campaign Chief Reflects on Election Success

Jakarta. Rosan Roeslani, the campaign chief of Prabowo Subianto’s presidential campaign, expressed astonishment at the election outcome, saying that it surpassed their initial expectations.
In an interview with BTV network aired on Wednesday, Rosan revealed that quick counts by independent pollsters and the ongoing tally by the General Election Commission (KPU) indicated an additional advantage of around 4 points from the team’s forecast.
"Our analyses predicted a victory by 53-55 percent of the vote. However, praise be to God, we’re now on track to win by 58-59 percent," Rosan said.
These figures emerged from quick count results conducted by all major research agencies, each sampling from 2,000 polling stations nationwide. The interim official tally by the KPU shows that Prabowo, who picked President Joko Widodo’s son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as his running mate, secured 87.8 percent of the vote.
Rosan said that there was no secret recipe in leading the star-studded campaign team, which includes active ministers, retired generals, business CEOs, party leaders, and various community groups.
"It's about managing people -- how to bring together diverse interests into a common goal of ensuring a victory for Prabowo and Gibran," Rosan said.
The former Indonesian Ambassador to the United States added that his main task is to forge a common vision among team members regardless of their backgrounds. This strategy proved effective in winning support from various groups of the population, from young voters to housewives, he added.
“For sure it takes hard work and a solid team to secure an outright win," Rosan said.
As the Prabowo camp awaits the conclusion of the national vote tally and certification by the KPU, the campaign is focused on ensuring a good mood across the aisle.
"Prabowo and Gibran have said that this crucial democratic phase should come as a national celebration. Everybody needs to cheer up," Rosan said.
