Jakarta. A couple was recently arrested in Jakarta for ruthlessly murdering and mutilating a man into eleven parts for the sake of money at an apartment, and then hid the body parts at another apartment.

On Wednesday, the victim's body parts wrapped in a plastic bag were found in two suitcases and a backpack on the 16th floor of Ebony Tower at the Kalibata City apartment complex in Jakarta.

Police later identified the victim as the reportedly missing 32-year-old Rinaldi Harley Wismanu. 

The couple, 26-year-old Djumadil Al Fajri and his girlfriend Laeli Atik Supriyatin, were allegedly tempted by the victim's wealth that became a motive for the gruesome murder.

They were presented during re-enactment of the case held by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Friday.

"There are 13 crime scenes. Re-enactment at twelve other crime scenes will be held at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police," Jakarta Police spokesman Chief Comr. Yusri Yunus told reporters in Jakarta.

During the re-enactment at Pasar Baru Mansion in Central Jakarta, Laeli demonstrated herself acting as a decoy on the dating app Tinder. The 27-year-old woman started chatting with the victim on Sep. 5. Both Rinaldi and Laeli later met at the coffee shop Kopi Kenangan in Juanda Station.

The perpetrators decided to target Rinaldi after discovering he was financially well-off. Prior to his death, Rinaldi was working as a human resource manager at a contractor company.

Cold-Blooded Murder
An earlier press conference by the police had also revealed the gruesome details of the cold-blooded murder which took place at Pasar Baru Mansion in Central Jakarta.

"Laeli and the victim communicated on Sep. 5. They later planned to meet at an apartment in Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta. The suspect had rented the place from Sep. 7 to Sep. 12," Jakarta Police Chief Insp. Gen. Nana Sudjana said at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday.

They eventually decided to meet on Sep. 9 when the murder occurred.

Fajri had already been hiding in the bathroom before Laeli and the unsuspecting Rinaldi arrived. Laeli and Rinaldi were having sexual intercourse when Fajri suddenly barged out of the bathroom and hit the victim's head with a brick thrice. Rinaldi was also stabbed to death seven times.

Nana said the suspects did not know what to do with the body after the victim had died. 

They later moved the body to the bathroom and stepped out to purchase a machete and saw. They had also bought a new bed sheet and white paint to remove the bloodstain off the wall.

Upon returning, the killer couple mutilated Rinaldi, chopping his body into eleven parts.

The body parts were stashed in a plastic bag and later put in two suitcases and a backpack. They later booked a ride-share vehicle to head off to Kalibata City Apartment where the victim was found.

On Sep. 12, Rinaldi's family filed a missing person's report.

The police are also digging deeper into the mutilation case to look out for other potential victims.

"We worry that it is not just one victim, but there are others. The victim is chopped off into eleven parts. This is inhumane, this is very cruel," Nana said.

Money Issues
According to Nana, Laeli had already found out Rinaldi's passcode to his bank account before the murder. The sadistic couple was suspected to be in a financial crisis.

With his account, the suspects spent up to Rp 97 million ($6,577) on precious gold metals weighing more than 11.5 grams, two laptops, a watch, and a motorbike. 

They had also rented a house at the Permata Cimanggis housing complex in Depok where Rinaldi was planned to be buried. This was also where the couple was caught on Wednesday.

The police managed to track the suspect thanks to the account's transaction history.

Fajri was shot on the leg for attempting to escape, police have said, while his partner in crime was said to be cooperative during her arrest.

The couple is charged under premeditated murder article of the Criminal Code which carries death sentence.
