Boat Race, Fishing Competition Become Attractions of Tulamben Festival

Jakarta. Tulamben Festival was held on July 27-28 on Tulamben Beach, Bali, featuring a traditional boat race and a fishing competition.
"The festival can be seen as an entertainment event, but also as an effort to establish tight cooperation among various stakeholders to develop tourism and creative economy in Tulamben," deputy for tourism development at the Ministry of Tourism, Esthy Reko Astuti, said on Thursday (27/07).
The ministry supported the event with infrastructure, promotion and by organizing a concert.
The festival also saw various exhibitions of Balinese handicraft and a cultural parade.
"The main part was the boat race and the fishing tournament, the first one had 50 and the second 60 participants," Karangasem tourism agency head I Wayan Astika said.
Culinary attractions colored the event, especially octopus satay, nasi beguiling and jaje bali coconut pancakes.
Tulamben Beach is also known for extraordinary views, coral reefs and turquoise water. A special attraction is the wreck of USAT Liberty, a United States Army cargo ship torpedoed by the Japanese in 1942.
