Jakarta. Papuan footballer Boaz Solossa was named the best player in the 2016 Indonesian Soccer Championship after helping his club, Persipura Jayapura, win the breakaway league after 34 matches.

The award was presented to him during the annual congress of the Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) in Bandung, West Java, on Sunday (08/01).

"I thank my teammates and family for having supported me," Boaz told state-run news agency Antara after receiving the award.

Boaz played 25 matches in the Indonesian Soccer Championship and scored 11 goals.

Meanwhile, Bhayangkara Football Club midfielder Evan Dimas received the Best Young Player award, beating Septian David Maulana, a fellow former national teammate. The former under-19 national team captain played in 17 games last year and had been instrumental in the midfield with an 85 percent average passing accuracy.

He made five goals for the police-affiliated club after he returned home from a trial at Spanish club Espanyol in May last year.

Boaz received Rp 150 million ($11,200) in prizes, while Evan was given Rp 100 million.
