Jakarta. Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia admitted wrongdoings on Tuesday after customs authorities found parts of US-made Harley Davidson motorcycles and two UK-made Brompton folding bicycles inside its brand new Airbus A330-900 Neo.

Garuda's corporate secretary vice president Ikhsan Rosan said no custom taxes had been paid for the motorcycle parts and Brompton bikes, but stopped short of revealing who the owner was.

Customs officials are treating the case as alleged smuggling since the owner failed to declare the cargo upon the plane's arrival at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in mid-November from the Airbus factory in Toulouse, France.

"We will follow custom regulations. If we are asked to pay, we will pay. If the items are denied entry, we will return them," Ikhsan said.

He declined to comment on speculations that the smuggled goods belonged to a member of Garuda's board of directors.

But he admitted a Garuda director was on the plane as it was being delivered to Jakarta. The director had attended the handover ceremony for the plane in France.

"There were employees [of Garuda] who handled the plane's documents until its arrival in Indonesia. The baggage claim tag did carry the name of one of the employees," he said.

The customs office said taxes for the smuggled goods amounted to around Rp50 million ($3,500).

The plane arrived on Nov. 17 carrying 10 crew members and 22 passengers.
