BREAKING: Arcandra Returns to Ministry of Energy as Jonan's Deputy

OCTOBER 14, 2016

Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has officially inaugurated former transportation minister Ignasius Jonan to fill the key post at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources with former minister Arcandra Tahar as his deputy.

Jonan was dismissed during the second cabinet reshuffle on Jul. 27.

During the reshuffle in which Jonan was discharged, Arcandra was appointed the Minister of Energy. He was soon removed from his position following revelations he held both Indonesian and US citizenship, just 20 days after his appointment to the post.

Earlier on Thursday (13/10), Jokowi has affirmed that the appointed minister will be a professional.

“I ensure that they will be from the professional side, not [political] parties," the president said.

Arcandra was appointed deputy minister as his citizenship status was recovered by the government, as stated in a Justice Minister Decree on Sept. 1.
