Jakarta. Movie theater chain CGV Blitz has rebranded the company and officially changed its name to CGV Cinemas.
In a press conference at its flagship theater the CGV Cinemas in Grand Indonesia mall in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (10/01), strategic manager Jung Jae Lee said Graha Layar Prima, the company who runs CGV Cinemas, has already opened 27 theaters with a total of 185 screens across Indonesia.
This year, CGV Cinemas aims to open in more than 15 new locations.
"We plan to have CGV Cinemas in more than 100 locations by 2020, with more than 1000 screens," Lee said.
CGV Cinemas has already attracted 10 million viewers by late last year. The rebranding process from CGV Blitz to CGV Cinemas will be followed by introducing more advanced technology to its theaters.
In recent years, CGV Cinemas has introduced high tech 4DX, Screen X, Sphere X and Starium theaters, as well as the first cinema in Indonesia to offer its own self-ticketing vending machine.
CGV Cinemas also offers bedding seats in its Velvet Class and Gold Class theaters whose seat and dining services are inspired by first-class services on top airlines.
Haryana Suwirman, the head of programming at CGV Cinemas, said CGV has made a commitment to show not only local and international movies by Hollywood studios, but also independent pictures such as the upcoming drama "Bleed for This" by Miles Teller, as well as alternative content including concert movies by The Beatles and One Direction.
CGV Cinemas was established in 2006 under the name Blitz Megaplex, with a single cineplex at Paris Van Java in Bandung, West Java. The company launched its first Jakarta cineplex at the Grand Indonesia mall in 2007.
The opening of three cinemas outside Java, in Balikpapan and Batam, in 2013, marked the start of its cooperation with South Korea’s CJ CGV. In 2014, the company became the first publicly listed cinema company in Indonesia.
