Jakarta. The head of Jakarta's Regional Development Planning Agency, or Bappeda, Sri Mahendra Satria Wirawan, and the head of the city's Tourism and Culture Department, Edy Junaedi, resigned from their posts on Friday after coming under fire for their ridiculous budget proposals.

The proposals included Rp 82 billion ($5.8 million) for Aibon glue – often abused by drug addicts who inhale the fumes to produce intoxication or a psychoactive effect for cheap – and Rp 5 billion for public influencers.

The public influencers were going to be hired to promote tourism in Jakarta, according to Edi, who filed his resignation letter on Thursday.

According to Governor Anies Baswedan, the budget for the Aibon glue was proposed by the city's Education Department.

The budget proposals are currently being reviewed by the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD).

"The Bappeda needs to perform better. I have resigned with hopes that this could improve the agency's performance," Sri Mahendra said on Friday after Governor Anies announced his resignation.

Sri Mahendra will return to his previous post as a trainer in the provincial administration. 

His temporary replacement is Suharti, the city's current deputy governor for population and resettlement control.

The governor did not announce Edi's announcement on Friday since they had not been able to meet in person.

"The budget proposal review won't be affected [by the resignations]," Anies said at City Hall.
