Constitutional Court Begins Reading Verdict in Presidential Election Dispute

Jakarta. The Constitutional Court commenced reading the verdict in the presidential election dispute on Monday morning, with Chief Justice Suhartoyo declaring the hearing open to the public.
Thousands of security personnel from the police and the military were deployed to secure the area just hundreds of meters away from the State Palace in Jakarta.
"We intend to read the verdict continuously without any interruptions," said Suhartoyo.
"Justices will orally present the substance of the verdict while other relevant details are considered integral parts of it," added Suhartoyo.
The hearing will determine the legitimacy of Prabowo Subianto's outright win in the Feb.14 election. Defeated candidates Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo have petitioned the court to annul the election result and order a revote.
They alleged widespread election fraud and raised questions about the legality of Gibran Rakabuming Raka's candidacy as Prabowo's running mate. Both Anies and Ganjar have demanded the disqualification of Prabowo and Gibran in the event of a redo election.
Anies and Ganjar arrived early at the courthouse accompanied by their running mates Muhaimin Iskandar and Mohammad Mahfud MD, respectively.
The defendant in the trial is the General Election Commission, which formally announced Prabowo’s victory on March 20.
Prabowo voluntarily participated in the ongoing trial as “the party of interest” and sent his legal team to the court.
The verdict comes after weeks of court hearings and witness cross-examinations, during which the plaintiffs failed to convincingly prove the alleged instances of voter fraud or demonstrate serious legal violations in Gibran’s candidacy.
With Prabowo securing an outright victory with 58 percent of the vote, the verdict from the Constitutional Court is widely anticipated to confirm his win.
