Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police's counterterrorism unit, the Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88), arrested a suspected terrorist, identified by the initials AAR, in Cikampek, Karawang Regency, West Java, on Saturday. AAR is allegedly affiliated with an Islamic State supporting group.
Public Relations Division Chief Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko said that AAR was arrested for his involvement in terrorist activities and planning an attack using explosives.
"Several electronic components and explosives intended for use in a terror attack were also confiscated," Trunoyudo said on Sunday.
According to police records, AAR is a repeat offender, having been previously convicted of terrorism-related offenses in 2011 and 2018. He was apprehended for planning a terror attack involving explosives.
Earlier, a rented house in Kamojing Barat Village, Kamojing, Cikampek District, Karawang Regency, West Java, was raided by the Densus 88 Antiterror Team on Saturday. The raid targeted a suspected terrorist who worked as a porridge seller. Local residents reported that the raid had been ongoing since early Saturday morning.
The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) praised the arrest of the suspected terrorist.
BNPT Secretary Bangbang Surono appreciated the arrest, emphasizing its importance in thwarting terrorist activities.
"BNPT appreciates this arrest. It represents a preemptive measure by our security forces that is crucial in curbing terrorist group activities," Bangbang said on Sunday.
