Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police's counterterrorism unit, Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88), arrested two terrorism suspects in West Jakarta on Tuesday.

The suspects, identified as RJ and AM, are affiliated with Daulah Islamiyah, also known as the Islamic State (IS).

Densus 88 Antiterror Spokesperson Police Commissioner Aswin Siregar stated that RJ and AM were found to be actively involved in propagating and inciting acts of terror. “RJ and AM were also actively encouraging public support and participation in the Daulah Islamiyah or IS group,” Aswin said on Wednesday.

Aswin explained that the suspects supported terrorist activities by sharing propaganda and supportive narratives on social media. The investigation revealed that RJ and AM were also involved in assembling explosive devices, influenced by their online activity.

During the arrests, Densus 88 confiscated several items, including an air gun, an IS flag, chemicals and explosives, and various sharp weapons.

Aswin noted that these suspects are not linked to HOK, a terrorist suspect apprehended in Batu City, Malang, East Java, on July 31.

He added that an in-depth investigation into RJ and AM is ongoing.

Previously, Densus 88 had arrested a 19-year-old student named HOK, who was connected to the IS and was planning a suicide bomb attack at two religious sites in Malang.
