Densus 88 Nab Alleged Terrorist in S. Tangerang Raid

FEBRUARY 22, 2016

Jakarta. The National Police's counter-terrorism squad Densus 88 arrested another alleged terrorist in a raid in Cisauk, South Tangerang, on the western outskirts of Jakarta on Sunday (21/02).

The suspect was identified only as D.A.P., according to South Tangerang Police chief Adj. Sr. Comm. Ayi Supardan, as reported by state news agency Antara.

He was allegedly involved in the Jan. 14 attack on Central Jakarta's Sarinah area of Jalan MH Thamrin, which killed eight people, four of whom were the attackers themselves.

Ayi said the 38-year-old terror suspect returned to his home in the Suradita housing complex on Jalan Ceremai around three months before the Sarinah attack.

During the terror raid, police confiscated a Blackberry cellphone, a laptop, arrows, an airsoft gun and DVDs containing military training documentation.

Police added that the suspect had also participated in designing the 2009 bombings of JW Marriot Hotel in South Jakarta, which killed 12 and wounded more than 150 people.

A day before the arrest, police detained five people in Malang, East Java, for reportedly having ties to the military wing of Islamist group Jamaah Ansar Khilalaf Daulah Nusantara (JAKDN).

The JAKDN was formed in March 2015 and comprises IS supporters who have allegedly sent Indonesians to fight alongside the extremist movement in Syria.
