Jakarta. Surveys by different pollsters delivered contrasting results to Ridwan Kamil and Pramono Anung -- both are major contenders in the Jakarta gubernatorial election.

Poltracking Indonesia released its survey on Thursday indicating that Ridwan would win the election by 51.6 percent of the vote, leading by 15.2 points over Pramono.

A day earlier, the Indonesia Survey Institute (LSI) published its survey in which Pramono has the edge over Ridwan with 41.6 percent against 37.4 percent.

Both Polltracking and LSI are widely regarded as reputable pollsters in Indonesia.

Poltracking Executive Director Hanta Yuda said voters welcome Ridwan’s promises to provide free education to all, offer subsidized sales of basic commodities every month, and transfer annual funding of Rp 1 billion to every neighborhood.

More than 60 percent of respondents also view Ridwan as an honest person. The pollster mentioned the margin of error of 2.2 percentage points.

Meanwhile, LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan said on Wednesday that Pramono is more likely to receive support from the supporters of former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, whose election bid ended prematurely after he failed to get the nomination from any major political parties.

Djayadi said around 42 percent of Anies’ supporters will vote for Pramono, compared to around 32 percent of voters in the same group who will vote for Ridwan. The LSI survey has a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.

Both Polltracking and LSI surveys were conducted last week, each involving 1,200 eligible voters in Jakarta.

Anies comfortably led every survey before it was confirmed that he would not appear on the ballots.

The election is scheduled for November 27, when all provinces, regencies, and cities will hold simultaneous local leader elections for the first time in history.
