Doctors on the Run After Raid at C. Jakarta Abortion Clinic

MAY 20, 2016

Jakarta. Four people, including three medical doctors, have been named as fugitives by the police following a raid at an illegal abortion clinic in Senen, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (19/05).

Tienke Margareta, head of the Jakarta Health Agency's service affairs division, said a joint team from the agency and the Jakarta Police raided the clinic — located on Jalan Kramat VII in Senen — after receiving tipoffs from nearby residents.

"We can confirm from the evidence we collected that the clinic had been performing abortions," Tienke said, as reported by Detikcom.

During the raid, the agency confiscated medication and ultrasonography equipment used in abortions. A staff member at the clinic — identified by her initial W. — was also detained by the police for further questioning.

Police are on the hunt for three doctors – identified by the initials B., G. and D. — and the clinic's owner, S.

Initial investigation by the agency indicated that the clinic disposed of the fetal remains by incineration.
