E. Java Police Shoot Wanted Robbery Suspect
Tuban, East Java. A suspected motorcycle thief who had been on a police wanted list for over a year, has been shot as part of a crackdown on robbery in East Java.
Sr. Adj. Comr. Arif Darmawan, the chief of Tuban Police, said the alleged robber, identified as Rosyidi and nicknamed Ambon, was shot in the waist as he resisted arrest, attacking officers with a knife and a piece of wood.
Rosyidi's alleged partner-in-crime, Masduki (also known as "The Boss"), has also been arrested.
"Both have been on the police wanted list for over a year," Arif said. "Apart from Tuban, the two were also active in Madura."
Arief said police were forced to shoot Rosyidi because he attempted to flee the scene.
"An officer fell down on the floor and we did not want to take a risk — we shot him in the left part of his waist," Arif said.
Separately in Pasuruan, also in East Java, police arrested two men believed to be behind a series of robberies.
The men, identified as Salim and Bakir, allegedly were aided by a women who would lure potential victims into a villa, where they would be attacked.
Police have beefed up security across the country following a series of violent robberies, including in Jakarta.
