Farmers Call for Agrarian Reform at State Palace

Jakarta. Over 1,200 police officers were deployed in Jakarta on Tuesday to secure a demonstration by thousands of farmers at the State Palace. 

Sr. Comr. Martuani Sormin of the Jakarta Police said the farmers came from several areas in West Java to call for better management of ownership and utilization of lands in their hometowns.

The protest started at 8 a.m., with farmers marching to the State Palace from nearby Istiqlal Mosque. 

No disruptions of the public order were reported.
