Jakarta. A chilling scene unfolded in Jakarta on Friday as a man accused of murdering his four children was brought to the crime scene to reenact the harrowing moments when he used his hands to suffocate them.

The reenactment showed Panca Darmansyah, 41, covering the mouth and nose of the victims, aged between one and four years old, leading to their deaths due to oxygen deprivation on December 3.

The distressing sequence of events began at a boarding house in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, starting with the youngest child.

Subsequently, Panca arranged the bodies of his children on a mattress in ascending order of their ages, placing a family photograph atop the eldest child.

During the reenactment, conducted as part of standard criminal investigation procedures, a police investigator recounted deposition documents, stating that "he squatted while carrying out the killings, each taking approximately 15 minutes."

Clad in an orange detainee suit, Panca also reconstructed the moment he allegedly filmed the bodies using a cellphone.

The reenactment drew significant attention from the neighborhood and the media, with one person from the crowd expressing disbelief, shouting at the suspect, "How could you do this?"

When the children were silently murdered, their mother was undergoing treatment at a hospital for severe injuries after she was attacked by Panca a day earlier.

The bodies were discovered on December 6, three days after the incident, when neighbors grew suspicious of a foul smell emanating from the house on Kebayoran Raya Street.

They forced a door and found Panca in the bathroom with self-inflicted stab wounds, apparently attempting suicide, and the children's bodies in the bedroom.

Panca has been charged with premeditated murder and child abuse, which carry the maximum penalty of death. Police also slapped him with the domestic violence charges.
