Nusantara. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated the commencement of construction for a police office in Nusantara, East Kalimantan, set to oversee six district police stations in the prospective national capital.

Occupying an expansive 12-hectare area, the police office is slated for completion within nine months, at an estimated cost of Rp 160 billion ($10.3 million), President Jokowi announced during the groundbreaking ceremony.

The facility's blueprint includes a state-of-the-art security system equipped with an artificial intelligence-based command center that will oversee surveillance cameras across every corner of the capital.

"I've mandated the police office's design to align with green building standards, underscoring our aim for an environmentally friendly landscape in the new capital," Jokowi said.

"The National Capital Nusantara is envisioned to provide unparalleled protection to its residents, aiming for a crime-free environment. It's intended to serve as a model for security measures across Indonesia," he added.

The Nusantara Police Office is entrusted with the oversight of six districts, including the central government's core area, Sepaku, Loa Kulu, Loa Janan, Muara Jawa, and Samboja.

National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo said the police headquarters will eventually move to Nusantara. A phased deployment plan will see an estimated 9,700 officers stationed in the new capital.

"Construction for the National Police Headquarters is slated to commence next year," said Listyo, who accompanied the president on the East Kalimantan trip.

“Simultaneously, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing is undertaking the development of four high-rise residential buildings, comprising a total of 1,680 units, designated for police personnel at the same location. This project is expected to conclude by November 2024," the police chief said.
