Police Injured, Bombs Seized in Tangerang Attack
Jakarta. Five police officers were injured and an alleged Islamic State sympathizer arrested following a violent attack on a police traffic post in Cikokol, Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday morning (20/10).
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Awi Setiyono said the 22-year-old suspect, identified by his initials S.A., was reproached by police officers as he tried to post an Islamic State sticker on a traffic police post along Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan.
The suspect later attacked five police officers with knife.
"The confiscated evidence includes a knife, a badik [traditional bladed weapon], two handmade pipe bombs which had been placed near the road and river, a black backpack, a white turban and an Islamic State sticker," Awi told reporters in Jakarta.
The suspect was arrested after police fired two shots into his thighs. He will be questioned following medical treatment.
“We’ve installed police at the scene and our personnel are conducting further investigations,” Awi said.
Tangerang Police chief Comr. Effendi and four officers, identified as Brig. S Arifin, Insp. Agus, Insp. Heru and Insp. Bambang, suffered stab wounds during the attack.
