Former President Yudhoyono's Mother Passes Away at 87
Jakarta. Siti Habibah, mother of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, was laid to rest in Tanah Kusir Public Cemetery in South Jakarta on Saturday following her death at the age of 87 on Friday evening.
Several prominent figures, including President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, Vice President Jusuf Kalla, State Secretary Pratikno, People's Consultative Assembly Speaker Zulkifli Hasan and Regional Representatives Council Speaker Oesman Sapta Odang, have expressed their condolences.
"I listened to every visitor who told me to stay strong and patient. I thank you for the motivation and the good words; it strengthens my heart," Yudhoyono said on Saturday.
This has been a tough year for the Yudhoyono family, with the passing of former first lady Ani Yudhoyono in June while receiving treatment for leukemia in Singapore.
"This is a very difficult year for me and my family, but I'm certain this hardship is nothing compared with God's blessings for us," the former president said.
Siti had been in the intensive care unit of Mitra Keluarga Cibubur Hospital in West Java for the last two weeks.
Renanda Bachtar, deputy secretary general of Yudhoyono's Democratic Party, reported the news of Siti's passing in a Facebook post on Friday night.
Siti is survived by Yudhoyono – her only child – two grandsons, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, and four great-grandchildren.
