French and Indonesian Scholars Meet in Yogyakarta, Seek to Strengthen Education Partnerships
Jakarta. French and Indonesian scholars met in Yogyakarta on Wednesday (03/05) to discuss enhancing partnerships between institutes of higher education in both countries.
The French Embassy in Indonesia, Institut Français d'Indonésie (IFI) and the Education Ministry have teamed up to host the Indonesia-France Joint Working Group Congress at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), which will conclude on Thursday.
300 representatives from French and Indonesian universities participated in the conference to discuss strengthening ties in the education sector and increasing funding for joint research ventures, the French embassy's university cooperation attache Antoine Devoucoux de Buysson said on Wednesday.
"The purpose of this meeting is to increase the mobility of students and lecturers, form a sustainable partnership by strengthening the consortium among government bodies and ensure funding for various joint programs," Buysson said.
The congress has been divided into panels covering such topics as environmental issues, maritime sciences and technology, energy and engineering, information and communication technology, law, economy and management, social sciences and tourism, food security and health.
French Ambassador to Indonesia and East Timor Jean-Charles Berthonnet, UGM vice rector Paripurna P. Sugarda and Education Ministry directorate general for human resources Ali Ghufron Mukti all gave keynote speeches during the event's opening ceremony on Wednesday.
