Garuda Stewardess Angered by 'Mistress' Tweets

JANUARY 20, 2020

Jakarta. A Garuda Indonesia stewardess underwent a police questioning on Monday after she lodged a criminal complaint against a Twitter account who had reportedly accused her of being a mistress for an executive at the flag carrier.

Having missed two previous police summonses, Siwi Widi Purwanti arrived at the Jakarta Police headquarters at noon to follow up her complaint against @digeeembok Twitter account.

In a press conference earlier this month, Siwi slammed the allegations as baseless. She also speculated that the story could have been invented by a jealous colleague.

"The allegations are completely untrue and they've really damaged my reputation," she said.

"They could be [the result of] unhealthy competition in my job, to distract attention from something I have no idea about and to drag my name through the mud," Siwi, accompanied by her attorney Elza Syarief, said in a Jan. 10 press conference.

Garuda's vice president for cabin crew Roni Eka has also reported the same account for calling him a "pimp."

The account, whose owner goes by the name "El Diablo" on Twitter, wrote a series of tweets attacking several Garuda executives in December in the wake of a scandal in which sacked president director I Gusti Ngurah Ashkara smuggled a vintage Harley Davidson motorcycle and two Brompton folding bicycles inside the company's brand new Airbus A330-900 Neo.

On a Dec. 9 Tweet, @digeembok wrote that Siwi was a mistress of former Garuda human resources director Heri Akhyar.

"If president director Ari Akshara had a mistress named Puteri Ramli, then Heri Akhyar is not to be outdone. He has his own mistress named Siwi Widi," the tweet said.

The account then went for the jugular, saying that Siwi was only able to get the job as a Garuda stewardess because of her personal relations with the executive.

Even after police stepped in with a promise to uncover the real person behind @digeembok, the account continued its attack on the woman.

As recently as Sunday, @digeeembok wrote that Siwi had withdrawn Rp 3 billion ($219,000) from her bank account and that she was in possession of another deposit account worth Rp 500 million.
