Jakarta. The Golkar Party in the House of Representatives appointed lawmaker Bambang Soesatyo on Thursday (11/01) to replace the disgraced Setya Novanto as speaker of the House.
Setya is currently standing trial on corruption charges for embezzling funds surrounding the national electronic identity card project, or e-KTP.
Bambang is currently the chairman of the House's Commission III, which oversees legal affairs.
Golkar politician and lawmaker Ahmadi Noor Supit, as reported by Antara news agency, confirmed the decision, saying the announcement will be made officially at Golkar's plenary meeting.
Airlangga Hartarto, chairman of the party, previously said that he will announce the replacement of Setya later.
