Jakarta. Prosecutors have recommended seven years' imprisonment for senior Golkar Party politician Bowo Sidik Pangarso, who is currently on trial for bribery he allegedly committed while serving as a lawmaker.
They also demanded a Rp 300 million ($22,000) fine and the suspension of his political rights for five years.
"We demand that the defendant be pronounced convincingly guilty of corruption," state prosecutor Ikhsan Fernandi told the Jakarta Anti-Corruption Court on Wednesday.
Bowo was arrested in March, just a month before the legislative election in which he was running for another term in the House of Representatives.
He is accused of having accepted the equivalent of $185,000 in bribes from Taufik Agustono, a director at Humpuss Transportasi Kimia, to help the company secure a fertilizer shipment contract.
Bowo, who served as a member of House Commission VI, which oversees state-owned enterprises, allegedly also accepted a Rp 300 million bribe from Lamidi Jimat, president director of Ardila Insan Sejahtera, to help the company secure a fuel supply contract.
The prosecution further alleges that he had accepted bribes from several other parties worth a total of $485,000 since 2016.
He pleaded guilty in an earlier hearing.
The prosecution also called on the court to reject Bowo's request for whistleblower status, which, if granted, could see him receive a lesser sentence.
