Govt Finalizes National Holidays for 2017
Jakarta. The government has finalized the public holidays for 2017 on Thursday (14/04). There will be 19, comprising 15 national holidays and four mandatory leave days, or cuti bersama, during Idul Fitri and Christmas.
The national holidays were promulgated by a joint ministerial decree signed by Employment Minister Hanif Dhakiri, Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin and Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddi Chrisnandi.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Welfare Minister Puan Maharani, who was also present during the deliberation and signing of the decree at her office in Jakarta, said all employees were legally entitled to these public holidays.
"The arrangement of mandatory leave and national holidays is intended to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of working days to improve productivity. Aside from that, it is hoped to benefit the domestic tourism sector," Puan said.
The 2017 public holidays include New Year's Day (Jan. 1), Chinese New Year (Jan. 28), Nyepi (March 28), Idul Fitri (June 25-26), Independence Day (Aug. 17) and Christmas Day (Dec. 25), with the addition of June 23, 27 and 28, and Dec. 26 as mandatory leave days.
