Harvey Moeis, Helena Lim, and Pile of Banknotes Handed to Prosecution Team for Graft Trial

Jakarta. High-profile corruption suspects Harvey Moeis and Helena Lim were handed over to the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office on Monday, symbolizing the impending commencement of their trial.
The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) also delivered a substantial amount of banknotes in various currencies and documents to be used as evidence by the prosecution team. AGO spokesman Harli Siregar said that the banknotes confiscated from Harvey amounted to the equivalent of around $1.2 million.

Prosecutors additionally seized 11 properties, two Ferraris, a Mercedes Benz AMG SLG GT, a Porsche, a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, a Mini Cooper, a Lexus RX300, a Toyota Vellfire, 88 designer bags, and jewelry from Harvey.
Harvey, the husband of actress Sandra Dewi, is accused of illegal tin mining within the mining areas of the state-owned tin miner Timah, causing an estimated loss of Rp 300 trillion ($18.5 billion), primarily in environmental damages.

Harvey gained social media attention after reportedly giving his toddler son a private jet as a birthday gift. His attorney has argued that the private jet was chartered by Harvey.
Prosecutors have named 22 suspects in the case, including Bambang Gatot Ariyono, the former director general of minerals and mining at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.
Helena Lim, suspected of being a broker in the illegal mining case, was among the first to be arrested by prosecutors. From her, prosecutors seized banknotes worth Rp 10 billion and 2 million Singaporean dollars, two Toyotas, a Lexus UX300E, two Richard Mille watches, and 37 designer bags.
“This demonstrates our seriousness in the fight against corruption," Harli said.

The scandal stems from alleged illegal tin mining activities within Timah's areas from 2015 to 2022, causing both financial losses and serious environmental damage, according to the AGO.
he Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) reports that the Rp 300 trillion loss includes Rp 271.1 trillion in environmental damages due to illegal mining, Rp 26.5 trillion in potential revenue loss for Timah, and another Rp 2.3 trillion in financial loss related to smelting costs.
