Hary Tanoesoedibjo Confident Perindo Will Win House Seats by 2 Digits

Jakarta. Media tycoon Hary Tanoesoedibjo said on Sunday he is confident that his United Indonesia Party, or Perindo, will win House of Representatives seats “by two digits” in the 2024 general elections after an unsuccessful debut in the last polls.
The party founder claimed he now knows how to win votes and exceed the 4 percent threshold of popular votes to gain House seats.
“Our target is two digits – 10 percent or more of popular votes,” Hary told reporters at the General Election Commission (KPU) building in Central Jakarta after formally registering all 580 House candidates representing the party with the commission.
"In order to win many seats, the key is the quality of candidates. Secondly and more importantly, logistics play a crucial role," he added.
Despite winning 29 legislative council seats in several provinces, Perindo fell short of the 4 percent threshold to be granted a seat in the lower chamber of the national legislature.
Lessons learned from the 2019 election fiasco, Perindo has fielded candidates dominated by prominent figures from retired army generals and Muslim clerics to actors and singers.
Among those candidates are former West Nusa Tenggara Governor Zainul Majdi, prominent Muslim figure Yusuf Mansur, and retired army general Joni Supriyanto -- the former head of the Indonesian Military’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS).
“We also have Mr. Anang Iskandar, the former head of the [National Police’s] Criminal Investigation Agency," Hary added.
