Jakarta. Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK, nabbed high-ranking auditors from the Supreme Audit Agency, or BPK, and several other government officials during two separate sting operations in Jakarta on Friday (26/05) for alleged involvement in a bribery case, the commission's deputy chairman said.
KPK Deputy Chairman Laode M. Syarief was quoted by Antaranews.com on Friday as saying the anti-graft agency arrested a total of seven officials, including Rochmadi Saptogiri and Ali Sadli, both high-ranking auditors at the BPK, and another unnamed staff at the audit agency.
The identities of the other four people arrested were not disclosed, but according to reports, officials from the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration, were also nabbed during the sting operations.
Laode said more details about the multiple arrests will be unveiled on Saturday.
Rochmadi had allegedly received a bribe from officials at the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration, which was given to him to secure an "unqualified opinion" — the best possible audit outcome — for the ministry's financial report.
KPK has 24 hours to keep the officials in detention before naming them as either suspects or witnesses in the case.
