Moscow. The sixth Football for Friendship wrapped up with a children's forum in Moscow on Wednesday (13/06).
The competition, an international children's social program supported by Russian energy giant Gazprom, is co-organized by world football governing body FIFA.
Team Chimpanzee, consisting of kids from Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Malawi, Colombia, Benin and DR Congo, won the first prize, while Brazilian national team won the vote for propagating Football for Friendship's nine key values, namely friendship, equality, fairness, health, peace, devotion, victory, tradition and honor.
Last year, children from 64 countries took part in the tournament. This year, representatives of 211 countries and territories were present. According to the organizers, 5,000 participants and guests arrived to Moscow for the event.
"Gazprom, being one of the most social-oriented company in the world, has always been supporting the promotion of children's sports. Football is the most popular sport and I think it is the best for uniting people, regardless of their country of origin or language," said Viktor Zubkov, the company's chairman of the board of directors.
Young footballers Muhammad Raffa Yasin and Alfonso Hutabarat represented Indonesia at the event.
After the Football for Friendship World Championship, they attended the International Football for Friendship Children's Forum at Moskvarium, the largest indoor oceanarium in Europe.
"It's a great program and the Indonesian Football Association [PSSI] showed its support by sending two Indonesian boys. The program is not only about football matches, it's also about friendship and other great values of football," said Ratu Tisha, secretary general of PSSI.
During the forum, children could share their experiences and hold discussions with their peers, famous footballers and journalists, including Spanish goalkeeper Iker Cassilas, former Russian international Alexander Kerzhakov and former defender of England's women's national team Alex Scott..
On Thursday, they attended the opening ceremony of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, during which Muhammad served as Indonesia's flag bearer. They also got to watch the opening match between Russia and Saudi Arabia at Luzhniki Stadium.
