Jakarta. Several ministries and state institutions held ceremonies to commemorate National Heroes Day on Thursday (10/11), including at the Ministry of Home Affairs, where it was led by the minister, Tjahjo Kumolo.

In his speech, Tjahjo said that among other national heroes, the country's first president, Soekarno, and the country's first military chief, Gen. Soedirman, deserve to be called the greatest.

"Bung Karno fought for Indonesian independence since he was a young student. Not only in Indonesia but also on the international stage. He also fought gamely to bring Asian, African and South American countries together in his Non-Aligned Movement," Tjahjo said, referring to Soekarno by his nickname.

"Their spirit of sacrifice and determination are an example to us all," Tjahjo said.

Meanwhile, at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) headquarters, chairman Agus Rahardjo led a simple ceremony and called on all Indonesian citizens to avoid conflicts in these testing times.

Agus said Indonesians should stay united instead of being drawn into unnecessary conflicts and focus on developing the country.
