Jakarta. The Ministry of State Enterprises will distribute 200,000 seats on trains, buses and ferries to help the less fortunate return to their hometowns for the annual Idul Fitri celebrations at the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Coordinated by state insurance company Jasa Raharja, the initiative aims at providing alternative means of transportation to those who would otherwise travel long distances on motorcycles, endangering their own lives and the lives of other people.

Among 62 companies involved the program is the pension fund of the Indonesian Military and National Police, known by its acronym Asabri.

It will assist 1,000 people headed to Solo and Semarang in Central Java, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya, East Java.

"Let's strengthen our will to help each other and assist those in need. We wish them a safe journey to their families and hometowns," the fund said in a press release on Saturday (09/06).

Greeted by Asabri managers and law enforcement officials, the travelers departed on 21 buses from the company's headquarters in Jakarta on Sunday.
