Jakarta. The House of Representatives is mulling adding an additional two deputy speaker posts during deliberations on revisions of the Law on Legislative Bodies, or MD3 Law.
There are currently five leaders for each House and People's Consultative Assembly, but lawmakers have proposed adding one or two more posts to accommodate the country's largest party, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), which is not represented in the current formation.
The revisions are being deliberated following a recommendation from House Ethic Councils issued Dec. 13, which said the leaders formation for the House and Assembly should accommodate the winning party of previous elections.
“We'll see the possibility of having seven leaders, not six like stipulated the current revisions proposal of MD3 Law,” House Legislation Body chairman Supratman said at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (10/01).
“The party factions argued the House's leaders cannot be even [to ease decision-making in debatable situation]. It cannot be six leaders,” he added.
The revisions will apply to Article 15 verse 1 and Article 84 verse 2 of the law, Supratman said.
The current House leaders formation sees representatives from Golkar Party, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Great Indonesian Party (Gerindra), Democratic Party and National Mandate Party (PAN).
Meanwhile, the Assembly is led by five leaders from PAN, Golkar Party, Democratic Party, PKS and a representative from Regional Representatives Council who is also a politician of People's Conscience Party (Hanura).
PDI-P wasn't included in the formation due to a political clash between opposition Red-White Coalition, or KMP, which was led by losing presidential candidate and Gerindra chairman Prabowo Subianto.
