I’m Ready for Jakarta Election Debate: Rano Karno

Jakarta. Rano Karno, the ticket mate of Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Pramono Anung, said Tuesday that he is ready to go on stage to face his rivals at the upcoming debate.
The actor-turned-politician who has had experience in competing in regional elections, said he had already gotten used to debates.
“I’m ready if God is willing. I’m not being arrogant here. I have already been in these debates a few times. So I know how it works,” Rano told reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Rano admitted that his pair had not made any special preparations for the upcoming debate, let alone what they would wear. But Rano said his team had already known the theme that the General Election Commission (KPU) had picked for the first Jakarta election debate.
“Everywhere we [Pramono-Rano] go, we will always promote our programs. Candidates are supposed to talk about their programs, and that is what we have been doing and will do later,” Rano said.
He added: “And we don’t really think much of what we will wear later. … So no, I still have no idea on our costumes.”
Rano has assumed some high regional government posts since becoming a politician. He was previously Tangerang deputy regent for the 2008-2013 term. Rano, however, got picked by Ratu Atut Chosiyah to be her ticket mate in the Banten gubernatorial election for the 2012-2017 term. Rano, however, later filled in Ratu Atut’s gubernatorial position after the latter got caught in a graft case.
Pramono-Rano will face Ridwan Kamil-Suswono and independent pair Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardana.
The first Jakarta gubernatorial debate is on Oct. 6. The debate has six segments and will run for 150 minutes, which includes 30-minute commercial breaks.
