Indonesia Adds 1,922 New Cases of Coronavirus
Jakarta. Indonesia reported 1,922 new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday, the highest daily rise so far this month, to take the total number of confirmed cases to 115,056.
Jakarta and East Java continue to become the main driver in the surge, contributing 430 and 410 cases, respectively, according to the National Covid-19 Task Force.
Both provinces have more than 23,000 cases each with East Java leading by a few hundreds.
To put this into perspective, no other provinces have reported 10,000 cases or more so far.
South Kalimantan added 119 cases and South Sulawesi reported 117 new cases in the day. The remaining provinces were able to avoid the three-digit daily figure, with six having no new cases.
Central Java was at ease for a while with only 60 new cases -- its lowest in more than a month -- zero deaths and 100 recoveries.
It has accumulated 9,887 cases since the outbreak to become the third province with the most cases, but South Sulawesi was only 26 cases behind.
The death toll increased by 86 nationwide for a total of 5,388.
East Java has the highest number of Covid-19 deaths with 1,781 fatalities, while Jakarta is at a distant second with 874 deaths.
Central Java, whose Covid-19 death toll has more than doubled since mid-June, registers 665 deaths.
More than two-thirds of the country’s 34 provinces have fewer than 100 Covid-19 deaths. Eight provinces -- Bangka Belitung, Jambi, West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, West Papua and East Nusa Tenggara -- have kept the death toll within a single digit.
The number of recovered Covid-19 patients jumped by 1,813 for a total of 72,050, or 62.6 percent of the total cases countrywide.
