Indonesia, Australia Highlight Defense Cooperation to Ensure Peace and Stability

Jakarta. The fifth Australia-Indonesia High-Level Committee meeting between the two countries' defense chiefs kicked off in Jakarta on Thursday (16/11) with the emphasis on boosting cooperation to maintain regional and international peace and stability.

"By building a healthy relationship and cooperation, the two countries can participate to create a region that is stable and secure, while advancing efforts to create peace and order in the world," Indonesian Military (TNI) chief Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo said in his opening remarks.

Indonesian and Australian defense officials are expected to discuss comprehensive measures to ensure closer cooperation and produce strategic, comprehensive agreements, Gatot said.

In his remarks, Australian Defense Force chief Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin highlighted the importance of cooperation between the TNI and ADF to support counterterrorism efforts in the region.

The annual meeting began in 2013.
