Jakarta. Indonesia's under-16 national football team has advanced to the 2018 Asian Football Confederation U-16 Championships after beating Laos 3-0 on Friday (22/09) in the qualification stages at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Indonesia's top scorer, Sutan Zico, sealed the first goal in the 25th minute as he optimized a rebound resulting from an error by Laos goalie Dim Phoutthavong.

Zico doubled his scoring with a clinical finish inside the box after a low cross from left winger Mochamad Supriadi in the 59th minute.

Stylish striker Rendy Juliansyah almost scored a beautiful solo-run goal in the 74th minute but was denied by Phoutthavong, who easily saved his final shot, which was too weak.

Zico almost struck a hat-trick in a real chance but his effort was blocked by Laos defenders in the box after 86 minutes.

Juliansyah completed Indonesia's 3-0 win after he calmly put the ball to the right, beating Phoutthavong in a penalty shot in injury time.

Indonesia accomplished a perfect four wins in Group G and has now reserved its place in the championships, which will be hosted by Malaysia next year.

"I'm totally proud with the boys and their hard work for their country. This success is for all Indonesians," Indonesian coach Fakhri Husaini said in a statement.

"We're looking forward to the grand finals next year in Malaysia," Rendy said.
