Jakarta. The Indonesian men's team failed to advance in the 2018 Thomas Cup semifinals after losing out to China 1-3 on Friday (25/05) in Bangkok, Thailand.

Indonesia secured its defeat after second pair Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan lost to Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen by rubber sets 17-21 21-18 12-21 in the fourth match.

Earlier, Indonesia lost the first match when Anthony Sinisuka Ginting was beaten by Chen Long 22-20 21-16. In the second match, favored pair Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo managed to earn the only point after they beat arch rivals Liu Cheng and Zhang Nan by rubber sets 12-21, 21-17, and 21-15.

In the third match, Indonesia's Jonatan Christie was defeated by Shi Yuqi, again by rubber sets 21-18 12-21 15-21.

"We have tried our best to overcome China. But they indeed have better line-ups than us," said Susi Susanti, technical and development chief at the Indonesian Badminton Association PBSI, as quoted by state news agency Antara.

China will face Japan in the 2018 Thomas Cup's final on Sunday.

In the women's division, Indonesia also failed in this year's Uber Cup after it was beaten by host Thailand 2-3 in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Japan managed to bring home the Uber Cup after 37 years on Saturday afternoon after the Sakura team defeated the host country team with 3-0.

The achievement was contributed by the first single match between Yamaguchi vs Ratchanok Intanon 21-15, 21-19; female doubles Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota Fukushima vs Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Putitta Supajirakul 21-18, 21-12 and the second single match Nozomi Okuhara vs Nitchaon Jindapol with 21-12, 21-9.

Thailand breaks the history by entering final matches in Uber Cup for the first time this year.
