Indonesia Has Administered 2.6 Million Doses of Covid-19 Vaccine

Jakarta. Indonesian health authorities have administered 2.6 million doses of coronavirus vaccine since mass vaccination campaign began on Jan. 13, according to government figures released on Saturday.
A total of 1.6 million citizens have received the vaccine, with around 1 million already getting double shots of the vaccine produced jointly by state-run pharmaceutical company Bio Farma and China’s Sinovac Biotech.
The country is currently in the second stage of vaccination after a vast majority of registered medical workers received the vaccine in the first stage.
“We aim 38 million more citizens in this second stage, meaning 76 million doses of the vaccine,” Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin was quoted by Antara news agency as saying on Saturday.
He said the government expected that the current vaccination drive targeting elderly citizens and public sector workers be completed by the end of June, before it can go to other priority groups.
“The problem is not about setting a deadline, it’s more about the limited supply of the vaccine,” Budi said during a visit to the East Java capital of Surabaya to inspect the inoculation of elderly people there.
His remarks came as the country recorded the lowest daily count of new cases in nearly two months.

Indonesia has added 6,208 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 1.33 million. Saturday’s figure is the lowest daily count since Dec. 29.
The total number of active cases stands at 157,039.
The country has added more than 250,000 cases since Feb. 1, the second-highest monthly total after a record 335,116 cases in January.

West Java comes next with a total of 210,442 cases, including 2,309 deaths.
Both provinces have added more than 128,000 cases to the national tally since the beginning of the month.

Meanwhile, Central Java has recorded a total of 152,701 cases and 6,661 deaths.
But it’s East Java which has recorded the highest fatality toll in the Indonesian outbreak, with a total of 9,088 Covid deaths from 129,135 cases.
The country’s four most populous provinces make up 62 percent of the total number of cases.
All major hotspots have reported a slower growth in newly cases since the end of January, except for East Kalimantan and Bali which continue to report higher numbers.
East Kalimantan has been averaging 511 cases since February 1, in comparison to an average of 456 cases in January.

The province has recorded a total of 55,017 cases and is rapidly closing in on South Sulawesi, which has the highest number of coronavirus cases outside Java with a total of 56,114 cases.
