Jakarta. Indonesia's Mifthakul Husyen Rahmatullah scored in injury time to put his squad on equal footing with Myanmar in the opening match of the Asean Football Federation under-15 Championship on Sunday (09/07).
Myanmar led the game 2-1 by the 30th minute after La Min Htwe answered Indonesia's Rendy Juliansyah successful strike on goal in the third minute. Naung Naung Soe later equalized through a penalty kick in the 28th minute.
Midfielder Husyen secured the tie in injury time, placing the score at 2-2 and relieving head coach Fachri Husaeni after an intense 80 minutes of play.
"I feel that we were lucky with Husyen's late goal. We made lots of mistakes, particularly in the first half when we committed too many unnecessary fouls," Fachri said after the match.
"We'll improve for our next game against Thailand. Nervousness in the first match is normal," he added.
The same squad defeated Myanmar 4-1 last month at the Tien Phong Plastic Cup in Vietnam, which Indonesia later went on to win.
The Indonesian U-15 team has been placed third in the Group A table of the AFF championship and will face Thailand's squad, which defeated rival Australia 2-1 in their opening match, on Tuesday.
Laos currently tops Group A after beating Singapore 2-0.
