Jakarta. Indonesia recorded the lowest daily number of newly Covid-19 cases in nearly two months on Monday, but the daily death toll remained within four-digit territory.

The country has added 17,384 cases in the past 24 hours, the lowest figure since June 23, for a total of 3,871,738 cases, government figures show.

Jakarta recorded just 513 new infections, the capital city’s lowest daily number since May 25. 

However, new infections are still raging in the country’s most populated provinces of West, East and Central Java.

Central Java registered 3,803 new cases, West Java added 2,095 cases to its tally and East Java recorded 1,559 more cases.

A further 1,245 Covid patients have died in the one-day period, bringing the total death toll to 118,833 countrywide.

The daily death toll is trending down to the lowest figures since July 18, but it has been topping 1,000 since exactly a month ago.

Nearly 30,000 Covid-19 patients tested negative in the day to further reduce the number of active cases. The total number of active cases stands at 371,021, a sharp decline from more than 550,000 in late July.

Amid the highly fluctuating vaccination numbers, the country managed to administer another 1.1 million doses in the 24-hour period, bringing the total number of Covid-19 vaccine jabs to nearly 83 million.

More than 28.5 million Indonesians or just above 10 percent of the population have been fully vaccinated to date.

A record 2.8 million Covid vaccines were administered on Friday, but the figures dropped to fewer than half a million the following day.
