Jakarta. During a bilateral meeting with Russia and an Indonesian delegation led by Chief Security Minister Wiranto on Tuesday (24/05), the two countries agreed to work together to improve counterterrorism efforts.

The parties also discussed exchanging intelligence information, combating drug trafficking and cybersecurity issues, according to a statement issued by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

"We are focused on how we can develop a comprehensive concept for defense from all aspects of life so that we can tackle new threats," Wiranto said in the statement.

He added that issues of terrorism, radicalism, illegal fishing and human trafficking are real threats to Indonesia, and the government is working to develop a balanced defense strategy to address them.

Wiranto also said that the Indonesian diaspora are a great asset for the country and expressed his hopes that they will continue to embrace their identity as Indonesians.

"I hope that the Indonesian diaspora will embrace an 'I am Indonesian' attitude. If we capitalize on that powerful sense of identity, I think it will benefit Indonesia greatly," Wiranto said.
