Indonesian Police Nab Chinese Scammer Behind Fraud Targeting 800 Victims

Jakarta. The Cyber Crime Directorate of Indonesia's National Police (Polri) has reported that approximately 800 individuals have fallen victim to online scam operations orchestrated by a Chinese national identified as SZ, with total losses reaching hundreds of billions of rupiah.
Deputy Director of Cyber Crime, Dani Kustoni, revealed that suspect SZ was involved in both online scams and human trafficking. These operations targeted victims on an international scale.
"International job scam networks, such as those requiring likes or subscriptions to certain content," Dani said on Friday.
He noted that the Cyber Crime Directorate is still investigating the potential involvement of other suspects.
Previously, the Directorate disclosed that the mastermind behind these online scams in Indonesia was a foreign national from China. The fraudulent activities carried out by the suspect resulted in losses amounting to hundreds of billions of rupiah for approximately 800 Indonesian victims.
SZ was apprehended during his flight to a Middle Eastern country. His arrest was made possible through cooperation between the Cyber Crime Directorate, the International Relations Division of the National Police, and Interpol.
"We have previously arrested other suspects, but this one is the primary perpetrator. A Chinese national," said Dani Kustoni on Thursday.
The police are set to provide a more comprehensive update on this case in a press conference in the coming days.
