Indonesia’s Daily Coronavirus Cases Set Another Record
Jakarta. Confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Indonesia hit a new high on Wednesday with 1,853 new cases to take the country’s total to 68,079, according to the National Covid-19 Task Force.
The previous high was 1,624 last Thursday.
The country has added 11,600 more cases eight days into the month, more than a third of total cases registered in the whole month of June, when there were 29,913 cases.
The Covid-19 death toll stood at 3,359, increasing by 50 from a day earlier. For the fifth day in a row, daily death toll has topped 50, including a record 82 on Sunday.
The number of cured patients increased by 800 to 31,585, or 46.4 percent of total confirmed cases. The country now has 33,135 active cases, representing 48.7 percent of confirmed cases.
East Java reported 366 new cases and 23 deaths on Wednesday, extending its lead with 14,967 cases and 1,102 deaths overall.
Cases also rose significantly in Jakarta, which set a new daily record of 357 cases to a total of 13,211. Four more Covid-19 patients have died in the capital city over the last 24 hours, taking its total death toll to 665.
Central Java reported 205 new cases, the second time it saw daily cases top 200, to a total of 5,083.
South Sulawesi, the third most-affected province, added 166 cases to a total of 6,358.
North Sumatra has emerged as new hotspot with 156 cases to a total of 1,977.
