Indonesia's Gelael to Race for Britain's Pertamina Arden in F2
Jakarta. Indonesia's pro racing driver Sean Gelael will race with the Pertamina Arden team in the Formula Two competition which will kick off on April 14.
"I'm excited to race for Pertamina Arden, an experienced team with solid performances in the past few years," 20-year-old Gelael said in a statement on Monday (13/03).
Pertamina Arden is owned by Garry Horner, the father of Formula One's Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner. Gelael will race with French driver Norman Nato in the team, which is headquartered in Banbury, United Kingdom.
Gelael scored his first Formula Two podium last year in Austria, while Nato had two wins and five podium finishes last season with Racing Engineering in the same level.
Formula Two, formerly known as GP2, has been rebranded by new owner Liberty Media to set a simpler ladder on formula racing with Formula One being the top tier followed by Formula Two, Formula Three and Formula Four.
The sport's governing body International Automobile Federation, or FIA, also plans to issue a new regulation which will make it mandatory for budding Formula One racers to gain experience in Formula Two first.
Formula Two this year will involve 20 drivers from 10 constructor teams.
