International Young Golfers Compete in Junior Championship

JULY 12, 2019

Jakarta. Hundreds of young international golfers aged eight to 11 took part in the 2019 International Junior Golf Championship at the Emeralda Golf Club in Cimanggis, near Depok in West Java. The tournament on July 8-11 was organized by the Youth and Sports Ministry and the Indonesian Golf Academy Association.

Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi opened the tournament on Wednesday by hitting a smoke ball.

A total of 144 girl and boy golfers swung their clubs in the international competition, including young golfers from China, India, South Africa and the United States.

"This is a great initiative from the association and the Emeralda Golf Club," Imam said.

The association's vice president and representative of Emeralda Golf Club Purboyo Adhi Purnomo said both the local and international young golfers showed great enthusiasm in the tournament.

"Hopefully this tournament can be a breeding ground for Indonesia's future golfers," Adhi said.
