Jakarta. The three candidate pairs who will participate in next year's Jakarta gubernatorial election underwent psychological and drug tests on Sunday morning (25/08), as required by the city's electoral commission.
The six candidates – incumbent Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and his running mate Djarot Saiful Hidayat; Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni; as well as Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno – underwent the psychological test at the Indonesian Navy's Mintohardjo Hospital in Jakarta.
"There are six physiologists from the Indonesian Psychological Association [Himpsi] that will take on the candidates," Mintohardjo Hospital head Col. Wiweka told Antara news agency.
He added that the physiological testing took around three hours, including a written test and interviews.
"I've prepared for it all the time. Such test cannot be prepared for in one or two days," said Agus, the gubernatorial candidate representing the Democratic Party, National Awakening Party (PKB), National Mandate Party (PAN) and United Development Party (PPP).
After the psychological tests, the candidates underwent drug tests at the offices of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in East Jakarta at around 12.30 p.m.
BNN spokesman Sr. Comr. Slamet Pribadi said urine and hair samples belonging to the six candidates will be tested for traces of illegal substances. He added that the results would be available after 24 hours.
The Jakarta Election Commission (KPUD) will make the results of all the tests public on Wednesday.
